Epic Test Code LAB101011 Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization (FISH)

Specimen Type

Peripheral Blood (Whole Blood): (5-8mL) in green top sodium heparin tube
Amniotic fluid: 15-30mL in sterile container
CVS: 15-25mg villi in sterile Hanks sol. (available from lab upon request)
Bone Marrow: 2-4mL in green top sodium heparin tube
Tumor/Tissue: 3-4 mm of tissue in sterile container with sterile Hanks sol. (available from lab upon request) or sterile saline
POC: 1cm2 piece of tissue in sterile saline or transport media (available from lab upon request). 
FFPE: 3 micron section on positively charged microscope slides if indicated.

Specimen must be received at URMC Labs same day of collection. Deliver to lab ASAP.

If Sample is recived after daily Courier or on a weekend or Holiday have specimen transported by a STAT Courier (A&D 607-433-1726), also call URMC at 585-758-0510 to notify them that specimen is being sent.

Special Requirements

  • Must have a completed and signed URMC requisition sent with specimens. 
  • Place specimens, requisition, billing in URMC shipping container
  • Place bag in URMC pick-up area in CLP and enter information into the log sheet
  • If specimens are collected at sites other than MIB campus they MUST arrive by courier by 6pm. Courier arrives for pick up at 7pm.

Causes for Rejection

Mislabeled or unlabeled specimen

Less than 50% draw for Vacutainer tubes

Frozen, clotted or hemolyzed specimens.
Specimen not recived at URMC Labs on  same day of collection.

 

Additional Information

Flow Cytometry on CSF is a STAT test that is indicated for patients with an established diagnosis of Lymphoma or Leukemia or who have a mass lesion radiographically compatible with lymphoma. 

Days of Analysis

Mon-Fri, day shift. STAT FISH testing is available upon request
