Causes for Rejection
Mislabeled or unlabled specimen
Less than 10 mL urine
Urine > 3 hours old refrigerated (2-8° C)
Urine > 1 hour at room temperature
Limitations
Eosinophils deteriorate quickly and old specimens may yield false negative results

Interpretive Guidelines:
The detection of eosinophils in urine has been associated with drug-induced acute interstitial nephritis (AIN), chronic pyelonephritis, chronic renal failure, IgA nephropathy, renal allograph rejection and urinary tract infection
Patient Preparation:
Suggest early morning first voided urine for maximum concentration of urine analytes and formed elements
Methodology
A concentrated sample of urinary sediment is stained with Wright’s Stain examined for the presence of eosinophils
