Reflex Testing

Pleural and Peritoneal fluids submitted in proper container (A.C.T Dual or anaerobic transport media) will also be processed and billed for anaerobic culture.

Organism identification and susceptibility studies are performed as appropriate, according to established protocols that have been approved by the Clinical Laboratory Director. Call Microbiology, 547-3707 for details. There may be additional charges for these identification and susceptibility procedures.

Fluid culture is intended for body fluids from sites normally considered sterile (joint, peritoneal, pleural, ascites, etc.)

"Drainage fluid" or “wound fluid”, etc are considered Wounds and should be requested as such
