Reject Due To

Lipemic, hemolyzed or microbially contaminated samples may give poor results and should not be used. Undiluted samples at room temp > 8 hours.

Specimen Retention

Room Temp: 8 hours undiluted; Refrigerated: 14 days undiluted

Reference Values

ENA Screen (Symphony): <7 Negative 7-10 Equivocal >10 Positive dsDNA Antibodies: <10 Negative 10-15 Equivocal >15 Positive RNP70, Sm, Scl-70s, Jo-1, CENP, SSA/Ro, and SSA/La: <7 Negative 7-10 Equivocal >10 Positive U1RNP: <5 Negative 5-10 Equivocal >10 Positive

Testing Algorithm

The ANA screen interpretation si derived from a combination of the ENA screen and dsDNA results. If the ENA Screen (Symphony) is > 1.0, then antibodies to RNP 70, Sm, U1RNP, Scl-70s, Jo-1, CENP, SSA/Ro, and SSB/La are performed at an additional charge. There is no reflex testing available when only the dsDNA is elevated.

Limitations

A definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based on the results of a single diagnostic
method, but should only be made by the physician after all clinical and laboratory findings
have been evaluated.
In rare cases, interference due to extremely high titers of antibodies to streptavidin can
occur.
