Additional Information:
The “DIFF” code should only be used to order a manual WBC differential without a Heme Profile. -CPT’s: 85004 and 85048 will be billed
If a manual differential is desired on the same specimen that has a Heme profile, “CBCM” should be hand written on the order Form. This test code is usually restricted to oncology patients and not available at all sites. -CPT: 85023 will be billed
If a manual differential is desired only when the specimen’s results fail the algorithm specifically designed to screen for abnormal cells, the appropriate order is for a Heme Profile w/ Automated Differential (CBCA).
