Transportation Needs

Deliver specimen to the laboratory at the end of collection.  If transportation is expected to exceed 1 hour, provisions must be made to keep the urine chilled must be delivered within 24 hrs of end of collection.

Storage Requirements

Keep urine refrigerated during the collection period and, if delivery to lab is expected to exceed 1 hour, provisions must be made to keep the urine chilled.

Causes for Rejection

Mislabeled or unlabeled specimen

Collected with preservative

>24 hours refrigerated after end of collection

Sample > 12 hours room temperature

No Add-ons > 24 hours after receipt at MIB

Additional Information

Testing should occur as soon as possible and not > 24 hours after receipt at MIB.
