Transportation Needs
Keep specimen container capped and transport on ice. If delivery to lab is expected to be delayed greater than 15 minutes, see "Storage Requirements":
Storage Requirements
Normal procedures for collecting and storing plasma may be used for samples to be analyzed by this method. The tube should be completely filled, stored tightly capped on ice, centrifuged immediately and analyzed within 30 minutes.
Instruction for handling specimens for Ammonia at Outreach sites: If delays in analysis are expected, centrifuge specimen in refrigerated centrifuge (if refrigerated centrifuge is not available, pre-chill centrifuge cups or carriers prior to centrifuging specimens). Separate plasma from cells immediately following centrifugation, aliquot and freeze (-15°to -25° C). Specimen will be rejected if not received frozen.
