Limitations
This assay is a qualitative test to detect the presence or absence of drugs of abuse in unadulterated urine. This test is for medical purposes only. Clinical consideration and professional judgment should be applied to any drug results, particularly when preliminary positive results are obtained. This test should not be ordered if quantitative results are warranted or for legal purposes. It does not provide for confirmation of positive results by another method. Although a presumptive positive result may indicate the presence of the drug or drug metabolite, it does not indicate level of intoxication, route of administration, or urinary concentration.
Positive results are presumptive. Positive results for any drugs do not indicate the level of intoxication, administration route or concentration of that drug in the urine specimen. Confirmatory testing by a more specific alternate method is recommended for definitive results.
A negative result may not necessarily indicate drug-free urine. Negative results can be obtained when drug is present but below the cut-off level of the test.
This test will not detect synthetic or semi-synthetic opioids. Ingestion of poppy seeds or herbal teas containing Papaveris fructus may cause a true positive opiate (morphine, codeine) result.

Follow-up of Positive Urine Drugs of Abuse
Drug screens that require quantitation, confirmation or to include other drugs (than noted in this screen) are sent to a reference lab.
The New York State Department of Health allows facilities with a limited toxicology permit to use a urine drug screen for drugs of abuse to guide patient therapy or to monitor the progress of rehabilitation program participants.
