Transportation Needs

 Deliver specimen to laboratory within 1 hour of collection if unspun. If not possible see "storage Requirements". 

Storage Requirements

Sample tubes should be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection 

Gold tops are stable in original tubes for 7 days DO NOT ALIQUOT

Aliquot Red tops

Causes for Rejection

Mislabeled or unlabeled specimen

Less than 50% draw for Vacutainer tube
> 8 hours refrigerated
> 4 hours room temperature
>30 days frozen
Hemolysis > 500 mg/dL HgB
Lipemia > 1000 mg/dL Trig
Bilirubin > 40 mg/dL Bili

 

Limitations

Hemolysis with hemoglobin of 250 mg/dL [0.15 mmol/L (monomer)]e raises the CK result by 10 U/L at a creatine kinase activity of 50 U/L.

Bilirubin of 20 mg/dL [342 µmol/L] decreases the CK result by 10 U/L at a creatine kinase activity of 58 U/L.

May be levated following exercise and/or intramuscular injection.
