Storage Requirements
Freeze the plastic aliquot tube containing the serum for the PTH at -15° to -25°C.( Specimen is stable for 48 hours refrigerated or 8 hours room temp)

Deliver primary specimens to the laboratory ASAP.
Causes for Rejection
Less than 50% draw for Vacutainer tubes
Mislabeled or unlabeled specimen
Plasma not separated from cells within 2 hours of collection
Specimen > 48 hours refrigerated
Specimen >8 hours at room temperature

Limitations
Patient who have been regularly exposed to animals or have received immunotherapy or diagnostic procedures utilizing Immunoglobulins or Immunoglobulin fragments may produce antibodies (E.g. HAMA) that may interfere with this assay and cause erroneous results. If this is suspected, PTH-HAMA may be ordered to rule out this interference.
Pediatric reference ranges have not been established. For patient ≤ 18 years old, order PTH2.

Additional Information:
Intact PTH has been demonstrated to be labile, and is susceptible to fragmentation. This instability depends on both time and temperature. Centrifuge ASAP after collection. Aliquot Plasma and store frozen if not tested within 8 hours.
