At least 10 mL urine needs to be submitted to testing lab.

Storage Requirements

Keep urine refrigerated during the collection period.

Transportation Needs

Deliver specimen to the laboratory at the end of collection. If transportation is expected to exceed 1 hour, provisions must be made to keep the urine chilled

Mislabeled or unlabeled specimen

Greater than 10% of total volume lost
>12 hrs room temperature
>24 hours refrigerated after end of collection

Inappropriate urine preservative used

Specimen not refrigerated

A urine creatinine (CPT:82570) and output are performed and billed on all requests for 24 hour urine chemistries.
