Semen – collected at least 12 weeks post surgery
Preferred Container
A special collection kit can be obtained from the Hematology laboratory at 547-3725. This kit contains the appropriate container for specimen collection and specific instructions for the patient on the proper specimen collection and handling and delivery requirements needed to ensure optimum specimen integrity.
Minimum Volume to Submit for Testing
1.0 mL Semen
Transportation Needs
Deliver to the laboratory as soon as possible.
Deliver to the laboratory within 24 hours of collection.
Storage Requirements
If delivery to the laboratory is delayed store at room temperature
Causes for Rejection
Mislabeled or unlabeled specimen
> 24 hours old
Insufficient quantity
Collected in anything other than the special collection kit
